"Teaching is all about the Students"
What is the best way to get to know a new group of twenty-five to thirty students? Is it by asking them questions, observing their behaviors, conversations, and actions, or researching their environment both at school and home? When thinking about how I wanted to get to know my second grade students, I believed that all three were essential in developing the best understanding of these human beings. During the first few weeks of my student teaching experience, I administered a survey that would allow me to learn more about my students. I decided to create my own survey so that I could tailor the questions to fit my goal and purpose of the survey, which was to learn how my students. Through the course of several weeks, I focused on four to five students per day and simply observed them and recorded my observations on an Initial Impressions form. I also conducted research about my school, classroom, students, and their home life to help me gain a better understanding of the factors that would influence my teaching.
